The internet has become the first place that people go to research products and services, find a business near them and to just look for information. Social media has added a whole new element to internet marketing. A company’s own website is no longer that contains information about their company, product and services. The user generated content found on social media and web 2.0 sites makes up a substantial amount of new and frequently updated content online and Google and the other search engines, as well as internet users (potential customers) are relying more and more on this information.
Just having a website is not enough if you are serious about using the internet to market your business or make money online. You need to establish yourself as an authority in your subject or industry. Posting frequent content on your website or blog as well as other sites and establishing a social media presence helps. Using video and audio also helps.
Google determines which sites to rank highly based largely on how many backlinks a web page has which websites link to the page. Posting frequent content and good content will encourage other websites and people using social media and web 2.0 sites to link to your content, to “Like” your, to “Tweet” about your content, to “share” and bookmark your content. These are all great backlinks and help validate your business or products.
